yeah...

A few pages ago, or recently? there was talk about fads and stuff....

About that. yeah, it was for me the same w/ Napoltian Dynamite... as soon as it hit DVD, eveyone knew what it was and started quoting it non-stop. It drove me insane. I saw in in theatres before any of them knew what it was!! But, yeah, it happens.

It's not that I try to be into the indie stuff, but it just appeals to me more. I listen to music no one else has heard and I like it that way. For that I'd like to thank epitonic and Netflix (the ORIGINAL online movie rental place! I've been on netflix for so long, they sent me a DVD carrying box and two t-shirts. Before comericials, baby).

enough of that.

it's funny how people try to capture originality through means of intense popularity

i've lost interest in anime since highschool. I ended up getting into manga, and I only paid attention to new anime fansub releases if they got rave reviews, or if one of my favorite mangas became an anime.

that's why I picked up beck, but I was very disappointed with it. oh well...

my friends and i found out about my favorite band by seeing their video on mtv of all places... they playd the video like twice ever.. but boy oh boy was it worth it.

because of this miraculous event, i've never stopped watching mtv (when they're actually playing videos that is)

Yup, subs is the way to go. there's something slightly disorienting to me about seeing them speak english. I think hearing it in a foreign language makes a story with things that can't happen in real life more "credible" and "believable"(i'm not sure if these are the right words to use) to me. It's easier to suspend disbelief, because it feels like it takes place in another world. Hearing characters speak english is just "too close to home" in way...

Not just rock. METAL. like death metal. Children Of Bodom...Meshuggah...talented bands like that.

of course they also play lame hardcore & screamo bands, but oh well, it's mtv.

that's the only reason to watch. but then again, you don't need headbanger's ball if you're good about keeping up with your favorite metal bands...

It's strange. MTV used to be no rap, now it's all rap. I like hard core, "old school" rap. None of that 50 cent crap. What is that? I like rap that actually talks about things like politics or tells a story.

I have a funny story that goes with this. One time in art class, (there's a bunch of gangstas in it becuase they just wnat an easy A), I started ranting about how rap used to be good and more about the people than "slap a bitch," "smak a hoe" junk. And surprisingly, the whole room got quiet. I expected to get shot realizing what I had just said about fiddy and snoop, but instead I got slow, drunken, slightly high nods of approval from the gansta crew. It was funny after it was all over.

Good rap still exists, just not in the mainstream. Public Enemy and A Tribe Called Quest are, however, the shit.

Good rap and hip hop still lives on today with artists like Mos Def, Common, Talib Kweli, Atmosphere, Immortal Technique and fairly underground artists like that.
