Re: Anime (other than FLCL)
Anyone who hasn't checked out Monster should do so as soon as they have the chance. A little over seventy episodes. Instant classic.

I did check it out and dropped it around episode 17 or something. The first few episodes were really good and the story became very intriguing, but then it started to drag out and get redundant. Plus the whole point that everyone seemed so obsessed with this one man (Johan) was way over the top.

Re: Anime (other than FLCL)
I just finished the manga a few weeks ago, and it was fantastic so I'm going to be watching the anime this summer I guess.

Re: Anime (other than FLCL)
I'm currently watching Code Geass, second season, and I must say it's darn good. It has its obvious flaws, but the story is very well-thought and intriguing. I'm also in love with Lelouch, the main character, because he reminds me a lot of Light from Death Note, only that he has a more human side compared to that bastard.

Both are probably great, but if I watch it at all, I try to stick to anime that have 12-26 episodes and one season.

Well, Death Note has only 37 episodes and they go by very fast. I would suggest it to you over any other anime.

Re: Anime (other than FLCL)
Fuck I didn't watch either of those. I think I saw the last episode of Code Geass when I was channel surfing? lol it was an interesting finish, if it was indeed the last episode but I really didn't know who anybody was. Not really interested in either show. Geass looks like a hodge podge adventure show, Death Note just looks corny. A local movie rental store is going out of business and I picked up Tekkonkinkreet. Probably gonna watch it sometime this week.

Re: Anime (other than FLCL)
Code Geass was one of those over-the-top shows that, had it been done any differently, would've been terrible. However, it somehow came together and was amazing. I fucking cried at the ending both times I saw it (in GLORIOUS =^_^= UGUu~ NIHONGO and BAKABAKA V_V EIGOLISH.) I hear there's going to be a third season or a movie or something. Don't know if it was sourced, though. Either way, I think they should just leave it as is.

Aye, just finished watching it. I got rather emotional at the ending as well. All in all, a pretty good anime. I liked the first season better though.

I watched Tekkonkinkreet a couple years ago. It was pretty damn good, but it gets to a point where it feels like it's just dragging on.

Yes.
But I liked that arc anyway

Yes, the 2nd story arc was a load of shit, in the manga, and in the anime. Still has an awesome first half.
And Monster was incredible, but I never saw the anime.
EDIT: Just finished Paranoia Agent, and it ruled so hard.

Re: Anime (other than FLCL)
Almost finished with Code Geass, in three days- it's really hooked me. It's easily one of my favorite animes, it's just awesome. I want to write about it more, but I figure I'll wait until I finish it.
Edit:
Okay, I finished it - and man, that was just fantastic. I'm not generally into anime, and usually find a lot of them to be boring and unoriginal, add to this the fact that I'm pretty picky- and you get the idea. Bu Code Geass was something totally fresh, I mean, it did use a lot of recycled themes and ideas, but it never did so in a manner that didn't work. I was thoroughly interested the entire time, the characters were interesting and dynamic[especially Lelouch], and the surprises and plot twists made the show somewhat addicting[also the every-episode-cliffhangers]. I watched Death Note a few years ago, and really liked it up until L died[as other people said], and yeah, it really just lost momentum- along with my interest. Code Geass takes a bunch of stuff from DN, but executes it much better IMO. [I did like how DN had Light narrate his plans inside his head though, something Geass didn't do] Sure, it was completely over-the-top and required a good amount of disbelief suspending, but I still think it was brilliant.
The ending was somewhat disappointing, but I still teared up a bit.
In short: -Deep storyline and characters -Great visuals and music, both fit perfectly into the show -Progresses in a mix of fast and slow paces, making it interesting the whole time.
I heard that a new season is being made, I hope they don't run the series into the ground with it though.

Re: Anime (other than FLCL)
I've never been a huge anime fan (largely because I try to maintain a great deal of distance between myself and self-proclaimed 'otaku'...) but something about being an unemployed college grad with loads of free time has made me watch some stuff recently.
Welcome to the NHK, which I actually watched for the first time last summer and recently re-watched, is one of my favorite series of any media type, ever. The character development is just terrific, and the English dub is really, really nice.
I watched Gurren Lagann a few months ago when I saw it up for free on Hulu and I found it really enjoyable in a Saturday-morning-cartoon sort of way. Sure it's silly, but it sure is a lot of fun.
I've been on a humongous mecha binge lately. Plowed through several Gundam series. Thought 08th MS team was fantastic. Haven't finished Wing yet. Thought 00 was great (and oh my, it was a beautiful-looking show) though the ending was a little anticlimactic.
I just finished the main Evangelion series and was really surprised at how much I liked it. The fluid, organic mech and art design still looks great fifteen years later, and despite how weird the series can be I found it to be quite engaging. I'm looking forward to checking out the movies, especially the snazzy new remakes.
