Um, you're comparing two (well, three) entirely different genres in lyrics there. Don't even go there. Just stop already, okay?

Being strictly objective, it is not very far fetched to consider English to be the premier language for poetry. As far as modern (and not so modern) times go, English has been widely used around the entire world for poetry, and it now dominates as a "world language" of sorts. As a result, poetic techniques have been developed far beyond those of any other language, especially Japanese, which had been somewhat of a reclusive language as early as sixty years ago.
Um, Japanese values different poetic techniques than English, and has been doing poetry for at least as long. Don't forget that the first major epic novel was credited to Japan with Tale of Genji.

My point:

No, no language is superior.
You didn't read the post. About 100% of the people who crafted poetry in Japanese before the 1950s were from a medium-sized island off the coast of Asia.

I didn't understand quite what you meant. And as for English poetry being the main thing...I dunno. Every country tends to write poetry in their own language, so that's very much arguable. How many people there are in a country doesn't matter, my point is that no one language can be considered "superior" to another, unless in a sense that it is objectively more simple, which has nothing to do, and in fact would be counter-productive to, poetry.

Unless there is an inherent flaw in the language, it will be developed proportionately to the number of people who speak and use it, and for how long. It is similar to how great hockey players typically come from Canada and Eastern Europe, where the sport is most prevalent.

Ah, it makes sense now; Chinese is just inherently flawed (despite having huge amounts of speakers, it's a ridiculously primitive language).

Well, maybe you can explain so I can understand what you mean better, you don't have to be rude when I've been completely polite and kind with all of you.

Sorry, it's late at night.

What I meant was you were comparing current Japanese pop music (very related to late 90s American pop artists), current Japanese pop rock (such as Mr. Children), and recent hip-hop/r&b/whatever the fuck they call it. Using the shit that passes as music on our radio lately isn't the best place to go looking for good lyrics in English.

I considered Chinese, but in addition to what you said, you'll rarely ever hear someone who isn't Chinese speak any Chinese language regularly. English has that benefit of crossing more cultures than any other language.

Sheer's an ethnocentric bastard.

Haiku isn't English.
It came from the Japanese.
So get off our backs.

I agree, its hard to find good English lyrics. Most things on the radio are pointless and talking about the same thing. Its the same dance song , the same beat with different words " Watch out for the big girls - to - Swing that!" ( cant lie, i did like watch out for the big girls and, theirs some Ho's in this house, but after awhile it gets redundant ) But its all the same. Everyone wants to be a gangster or shake their ass. Most rock songs ont he radio that are new; are about how my girl left me or how much we're in love and driving in your car

Not knocking on all the songs some are good and I like some but the majority of mainstream has little to no poetic value or message. And I believe its not just in the US but everywhere. Though Ive found more poetic and meaningful lyrics in Jrock from the Pillows and bands like 12012. You can disagree and argue with me but thats what I see. I see most of Englishes best lyrics coming from bands like Modest Mouse, The Killers (more or less), etc; some underground bands: Maps and Atlases, Bear vs. Shark, Rx Bandits, DISPATCH!!!! But many people can and will argue stuff like this, because its their favorite band or they simple disagree, but also the world is losing that uniqueness from person to person and everyone moves to "label" like fashions of the Hot Topic Punk Kid, The Prep, The ghetto Hip Hop gangster, and stuff. Idk I can go on a real rant here and a great debate. As long as we respect eachothers ideas while still debating, I'm game.

in response to the original post. I agree sorta. I like to give people a chance. (such a nice guy eh?) FLCL fans are not as bad as say... naruto or bleach fans.

One particular otaku was invited to go to a pool hall with my friends and I. Now we're dorks in our own right in some way. Me with my obsession with heavy/pumpy upbeat grunge/punk about how the society is going down the shitter but I'm still fighting. my friend with his constant wes anderson quotes, my christian buddy, the hermit guy, and the gamer. The girls, as many in this niche of society, are just sorta into everything. We all liked our fair share of anime series.

however... this guy was too much. He showed up to the pool hall wearing naruto gloves and repeatedly pantomimed killing people. And forced some chuckles here and there. It was charming for about 10 minutes.

DDR elitists, guys who like anime because all their friends do so everything is frickin awesome, people who worship japan like it's candyland, and those that think "I would be better off if I was born japanese". these are some traits I really dont like from otaku.
