I'm going to bone her straight. I suppose straight girls who are that cool really don't exist very often.
By that logic, one could reasonably try to buttsex you gay then?
Also, sexual orientation has nothing to do with how "cool" you are/may be in the future.
Patrick Stewart, straight (Captain Picard): cool.
George Takei, gay (Hikaru Sulu): cool.

Yes. I thought it was...umm...overly gratuitous. Obviously pedophilia is something the director feels very strongly about (which is good), but Hard Candy seemed a little one-dimensional in its message. Yes, we get it - those who sexually prey on underage girls are terrible people.
It was cool that her role was so unique though. So I guess that's good.

I just read the Wikipedia, and it doesn't quite come across with the same message you say it does. It sounds more like a "hunter becomes the hunted" action/thriller movies. You know, like the girl is the bad guy.
Anyway, this movie is further proof to my assertion that all male studio photographers are creepy opportunists/pedophiles/rapists/etc. Not really proof, but yeah, you get the picture.
Edit: I also don't understand how a person who is 20 days my junior could convincingly play a 14-year old.
Also, Wikipedia makes no mention of her being homosexually inclined. Even if it were suggested somewhere that she was, it would probably be on Wikipedia.

On a serious note about movies and media that portray pedophiles as horrible people... not defending pedophilia or anything, but there are some people who want to come out and get "cured" or whatever, but society is so gung-ho about putting pedos in jail that they can't come out due to fear of ridicule. I have a friend who's about to turn 18 (He's a junior in high school though due to being held back.) Past year or so, he's expressed interest in younger girls (like 15 or 14, which is no biggy when you're 16/17.) but about half a year ago, he started going out with a fucking 13 year old. When they broke up, he was telling me how much he wanted a 11 or 12 year old.
The dude is a good dude, he's just... a little fucking creepy sometimes. I highly doubt he'd harm anyone, and I urge him to get psychological help, but he's just kinda... D: about it. He's like "What's wrong with liekin' loli?" and I'm like "lol jail time much, kthx?" and he's like "But I'm Asian, it excuses it."
For the record, can you even "cure" pedophilia?

Well yeah, that was it. That's sort of why I was conflicted while watching it.
1) On one hand you have the pedo photographer. Bad man, has child porn, probably wants to rape Ellen Page ( ).
2) On the other hand, you have a sharp, passionate 14 year old who hates pedos, knows what the pedo is up to, and wants to pay him pay. Revenge.
So there's sort of a dilemma there. Eye for an eye isn't cool...right? Are we supposed to sympathize with her character, or see her as some twisted sort-of righteous anti-hero?
Then that brings up the whole ethical/moral question of pedophilia in itself. Obviously it's a horrible thing when pedophiles ACT upon their urges.
But then again (and I'm no doctor), isn't being attracted to underage & prepubescent girls a kink/fetish/sexual "deviancy" like people who get turned on by pregnant women, feet, overweight women, bondage...etc?
The way pedophilia is different is that there's (rightly) a social/moral/ethical BAN on it. No one gets emotionally/physically messed up when foot fetishists act upon their urges with another willing party.
So is it right to demonize all people who are attracted to young girls? We can so easily say "Hey, people can't help it if they get turned on by bondage, whips, whipped cream, tall people"...and then immediately turn and cry out: "ALL PEDOS SHOULD BE PUT IN PRISON".
It's an issue that I think deserves more thought that a lot of people are putting into it. What do you guys think?
For the record, not a pedo.

Yeah, I looked to fact check too, lol. Where did you get that information? A few sites make mention of climbing trees and tomboy stuff, but that's not anything to go on.
She looks ok, I guess. I haven't seen any of her movies, though.

so it's not the MOST legitimate source, but...
http://jonathanjaxson.blogspot.com/2008 ... sbian.html
okay wait, on the other hand, some dude on a forum says she's dated Ben Foster (they met while filming X-Men 3).
Then somewhere else says that for some reason, she's become some idol for lesbians...
I dunno, screw Google. But yeah, if Wikipedia doesn't have it then I guess it's probably not true.
Let's leave it at "unknown/doubtful".

Pedophilia, per se, is no different than homosexuality, BDSM, etc., like you said. However, the main difference, is that in order to satisfy pedophilia, you must - by definition - opportunistically prey upon children. Sure, for instance, homosexuals can rape other men, but they still have the option of informed consent...pedophiles don't have that option.
Edit: I believe she is an idol for lesbians for having played some sort of LGBT role in some movie, if I remember correctly. And yeah, I think I would trust that website about as much as I'd trust John Lennon to not beat women.

Precisely. Unfortunately there's the uber-taboo on anything related to pedophilia (even if just slight feelings/tendencies) and then...the issue of "curing" a kink. Some things are possible to rewire in the brain, I guess it'd just depend on how hardcore into loli you are.
