I'm guessing Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is going to adhere to the book more than the first movie did. Perhaps this is just my 10-year-old mind talking, but I remember liking the film a lot more than the book and the book's sequel, in which Charlie & Co. jettison themselves off the planet to an orbiting space hotel where gelatinous aliens would devour unwitting space-farers.......um, yeah. (It was actually rather funny, now that I think about.)
And I'm not really sure of my opinion on Depp as an actor, but judging from the trailer, it doesn't seem as though he'll be able to match the sheer charisma of Gene Wilder's Wonka.
Strike that; it doesn't even look as if he'll match the charisma of Al Gore.
What's more, I think Burton is overworked. He's also directing the animated film The Corpse Bride(which looks quite a bit like his own A Nightmare Before Christmas--not really a bad thing, mind you) due out this year as well. Don't get me wrong; I'll probably watch both movies. But I wasn't too pleased with his Planet of the Apes remake, and this one doesn't seem particularly exceptional either.
I do hope it's good, though.

OG Willy Wonka and Roald Dahl are the only things that matter. This new movie is..... Pointless for lack of a better word. The old one was too good to be bettered. If you really want to see this movie just go read the Witches or better yet (even if you've already read it) Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator was great!
That part in which the US president, Nanny and the Ministers argue about what to do with the "space invaders" is a classic. And the Knids are nothing short of frightening. Ominously, non-Euclideanly Lovecraftian.
Well, now that I think about it, it was a rather erratic book... but when I was 7, it was teh hot stuff!

I wouldn't go that far. I've heard that Roald Dahl didn't like Willy Wonka, apparently because it wasn't very faithful to his book. Now he believes that Tim Burton is the only director that can do it any justice. So perhaps something good will come of it.
Howl's Moving Castle has been out for a few weeks....but nowhere near me. Stupid Disney. Do they think we'd rather watch stuff like Home on the Range?

This has been out for close to two years now, and I don't think it's getting an American theatrical release.
F'n ace of a movie, movie, though.

I'm sort of on the fence about both Narnia and Land of the Dead. If they're good that would be awesome, but they could both be pieces of crap which will end up thoroughly raping my childhood.
