I'm in the mood to watch Wolf's Rain as well. Checked the box set for Cowboy Bebop costs like $143 including the soundtrack and the 6 DVDs. Yet I found all the DVDs in a store one day that is $20 cheaper altogether but it's not the box set or bundle it is six seperate DVDs.
Yeah...about that. I believe discountanimedvd.com has the IMPORTED Dubbed perfect collection for pretty cheap (near $30). This means...it's a straight rip from the US DVD. Good stuff, although its really cheating the creators. Well, that's one option if you're kidna broke.
It's also being released AGAIN, titled Cowboy Bebop: Remix. Basically, is just the same old CB with Dolby 5.1 or something. It's at a cheaper price, but nothing to get excited about.
By the way, see if you can get your hands on the soundtracks. Yoko Kanno is a goddess.

Wolf's rain tries to be cowboy bebop too much, same character design, music composer and script writer (if I remember well), but instead of taking the more "realistic" approach of bebop, it's more mystic and stuff. And comparing both series endings cowboy bebop had the best I ever saw on an anime, and wolf's rain had some unnecessary stuff that killed the mood for me.

Are you kidding? That's like saying King Kong and Lord of the Rings are too similar, because they're both directed by Peter Jackson and have amazing special effects.
Sure, CB and WR have the same character designer, music composer, and script writer. That still allows for them to take completely different directions and stand alone from one another.
A better anime comparison would be Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo (although only really delving into character design), or Madlax and Noir. Cowboy Bebop and Wolf's Rain are very dissimmilar.

I didn't say they're alike (altough I have to admit that it may have been confusing when I talked about the endings). It looked like to me that they tried to take the cowboy bebop recipe and use it on wolf's rain, it was good as all the professionals there are really exceptional, but it lost a lot of the originality it could have had.

Although the use of digital equipment is quite handy in animation, I dislike what seems to me like a rush to use full-on CG animation blended with anime (Example: Witch Hunter Robin, Ghost In The Shell.). It feels like it takes all the soul and effort out of the artwork. There seems to be more an emphasis on Inuyasha type qualities (Easy to understand and simple storyline....Longer than Satan's arrest record.), basically trying to make audiences have to think less about their animes. But, this is beside the point. I'll have to go with...
Boogiepop Phantom
Paranoia Agent
Samurai Champloo
Cowboy Bebop
One Piece (Sadly, the dub is god-awful...)
Shaman King (Ditto. The manga is better.)
Angelic Layer ("My puppet can pwn your puppet.")
Gungrave (Most of it, anyway.)
Trigun
Hellsing
Saiyuki
Steel Angel Kurumi (So sue me, damn.)
Also, a lot of people flare in rage when I mention my most despised animes, just as important as those we're fond of...
Inuyasha
Witch Hunter Robin
G.T.O (Great Teacher Onizuka)
Wolf's Rain
Slayers
...And by the way. Special effects aren't special anymore when they're -everywhere-, Golden. Thank George Lucas.

I actually really enjoyed the ending to Wolf's Rain. I usually prefer series to have a more definite ending, rather than one that would make me think "Are they going to make a sequal?". But I do agree that Wolf's Rain was hyped up too much as "Another Cowboy Bebop".

it's a good selling point. maybe they just advertised it too much. but i too felt the series were quite dissimilar.

I actually disliked Wolf's Rain. It bored me through a bit more than the first half, then it started to get interesting, and then the ending pissed me off.
Hellsing was pretty awesome up until Incognito showed up, and then I thought it got way too lame and cheesy. Pity, too.
Trigun I love. GTO I also love.
I just watched Saikano (Saishu Heiki Kanojo) because I'd read some reviews that said it was really good. I hated it, and I have to warn everyone away from it.

Wolf's Rain used to, but now isn't my cup of tea anymore. It paced all over the place, and had this big chunk or recap between the 10-20th episode I think. Some good points I think it had were the animation and the music. Kanno owns.
I haven't watched any new anime series in about over a year. I'm still hooked on Fullmetal Alchemist despite it being dead in Japan.

I didn't like it at all either. I am a bit curious about the sequal, though.
