Beck will be released in the US by Funimation later this year. Just announced at AnimeBoston. I'll be watching the subtitled version since it'll be impossible to make a good English dub.

Untrue. FLCL, Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, and I can think of a few others probably too that had good English dubs.

I meant just this show alone wouldn't have that good of an English dub because of all the jokes about English fluency and whatnot in the Japanese dub.

Yeah, really curious on how the code switching is gonna end up on the final product. But it's Funimation, they generally do a good job with whatever they get a hold of. It's a damn good thing tokyopop didn't get their hands on it or they'd take a metaphorical shit on the series like they did on the made for racist american trash that was Initial D.

While I won't buy the US DVDs, the dub will be a HUGE challenge for Funimation.
Black thug: "Hey, kid. You gotta come with us."
Kid: "What is he saying? I don't speak English!"
There are so many obstacles they have to tackle.
Native japanese that speak accented English.
"Foreign" English-speakers.
Main characters who go back and forth between languages.
And to they have the voice-actors do fluent English or broken English when for certain lines?
Eddie: "Hay, fahk you [i]guys[/i]. Tha's my Lucille [i]dont[/i] you know that."
The easiest and best option would just be to just leave the dub alone.

when you think about it that way, there's a lot of ways they could screw this up. They could change the whole country of origin around and make it mostly english and the rest japanese, which would turn it into a huge mess. Or it could turn people off the series because because of the horrible engrish if they leave it untouched. Either way i doubt it will end up on basic cable. Probably starz! or somethin like that.
