Lain's pretty fucked up.
The same guy created a series called Tehxnolyze (spelling?) that's more straightforward but still pretty fucked up in its own right.

i liked la pyuta (castle in the sky) as well. and mononoke-hime. and i really want to see grave of the fireflies and nausicaa.

Grave of the Fireflies is not Miyazaki. Think about it for a minute. All of Miyazaki's movies are fantasy. Grave of the Fireflies is gritty realism.
Josher, part of Disney's contract that allowed them to release those movies was that they could not alter the movies. All they did was dub.

I don't really watch anime, but my grandma saw howl's moving castle and really liked it. Seriously.
She is like 80 years old.
