Huh. A friend of mine (who generally gives recommendations I agree with) was extolling this film highly but after reading this I don't want to see it...

Despite the criticism, overall I think it's a good movie worth seeing. It's rather clever and funny, at times. I suppose the idea is to just keep your ears open for one-liners to say to your friends. It's basically Napoleon Dynamite.
Cons (and I say these with much more enthusiasm): - The character Juno prefers Gibson over Fender
Whoa. My mistake. HUGE edit happening now.
Fender > all.
Just sayin'.

Read this a few times until you realize its truth, Sheer.

Fenders are like Volkswagens. Reasonably cheap everyman's guitars.
However, Gibsons are like Mercedes Benzes. Sleek and stylish, although a bit overpriced.
That is, if they were German automobile manufacturers. I'd take an S-Class over a Jetta any day - despite not being able to afford a place to live as a result.

You'd fit right in at Gary.

I'd put a high end Fender Telecaster against a high end Gibson any day of the week. It's not so much that Gibson's are all better, it's that they have a smaller value range that starts higher.

Actually, high-end Fenders are generally around normal Gibsons. This pattern follows throughout, from the low-end subsidiaries (Squier and Epiphone) to the Standards - right up to the custom shops. If one were to be completely objective, only taking the building materials into consideration, Fender doesn't stand a chance. Of course, build quality is rather subjective, although both Fender and Gibson are both consistent enough that it doesn't matter (granted, Gibsons are more complex and styled).
However, when you take it down to the one ultimate factor, it's all up to opinion. This factor is, of course, the sound that you can get out of the instrument. This is not only affected by how you play, familiarity, and who you are - but it's also 100% subjective.
It's pretty much the same as the German automobile manufacturers analogy. There people who say that they would rather have the Volkswagen reliability over Mercedes luxury. There are a wide range of factors that influence people's preferences - priority, subjectivity, etc. I would (barely - remember, I use both and think they're both great) take a Gibson over a Fender just like I would take a Mercedes over a Volkswagen. That is, comparing equivalent models, of course - if you gave me the option of a Phaeton or a C-Class, who in their right mind would take the Mercedes?

So, basically, this is just Napoleon Dynamite only about a Young Girl Seventeen Sexually Knowing instead? :3

Alright. I saw it last night with my girlfriend. It was entertaining enough. Hell, if I see it for $10 at Gamestop, I might even buy it when it comes out on DVD.
The music, however, even if I like/listen to most of what's on there... annoyed the shit out of me. You guys were right. It just came in at obvious times or whatever. That whole Juno being into punk rock or whatever thing annoyed the shit out of me, too, for some reason.
Spoiler related things follow:
Did that adoptive husband creep you guys out, too? Seriously. I was like D: JUNO'S GON' GET RAPED.
Overall, the movie was good. It just seemed too damned predictable and at the end when they did the Moldy Peaches song... THEY MIXED THE LYRICS UP >=[ It was out of order and fucking EVERYWHERE. Pissed me off.

I'm going to go see this tonight. Here's to hoping it doesn't suck.

It certainly doesn't suck, Mare - it's just a bit obnoxious. However, h2orowe hit the nail on the head here.

Spoiler-related:
I understand that that was part of his character, but that was seriously one of the only things I didn't see coming. Whether or not he and her were gonna fuck.

Didn't end up seeing it. The student government and one of the clubs arranged to show the movies that were playing at the local theater for free, so I was planning to go, but they ran out of tickets to Juno before I got there, so I saw "There Will be Blood" instead. I'll make a post about that.
