I haven't seen the third one yet, but I enjoyed the first two. The only thing I didn't like about the second movie was the offshoot where they went to that strange island. It seriously had nothing to do with the plot of the movie at all. It was entertaining and all, but filler belongs in television, not movies.

It's an entertainment film designed to arouse little girls with Johnny Depp obsessions and make a shit ton of money, did you seriously expect anything from it? I'll see it anyways, but at the dollar theater when it has been gone for a good month or so.

The monkey was pretty funny, especially when he pulls out the gun to the bird.
And the part with a crew made of a bunch of Johnny Depp was interesting.

Really? I wanna see it then, because I want to be entertained when I see a movie.

Nice way to take it out of context.

what?
saying it's an entertainment film is like saying "it's not a documentary or class project"
what?
Who?
It is a film designed for entertainment purposes and rather than making the film for aesthetic qualities, it was made to rake in a shitload of money. Of course it is an "Entertainment" film in a literal sense (made by Hollywood, put in a commercial theater, sequel's sequel to a box office hit...). But since the internet has no tone of voice, you can't hear me hypothitcally saying "Entertainment film " I should say movie rather, it has a lower, more demeaning context than film.
分かりますか?

It was a great film. I still don't know whether or not what happened to Davy Jones' crew was a bit of a cop-out for a somewhat happy ending.

If a film (or song, television show, etc.) made for "aesthetic qualities" doesn't entertain, it's shit. Pointless shit.

Then you obviously don't understand art and you didn't understand what I was saying.
You have to have both the entertainment and aesthetics to make a film. If it was just aesthetics, it would be a picture of a painting on an entire roll of film. What sets the movies and films apart are that "movies" set entertainment as their priority, whereas "film" sets the priorities in aesthetics (unless of course you find meaningless explosions and shaky cameras to be aesthetically pleasing).
Capeshe?
Also, stop taking everything so literally sheer...

I really like how Utsuseru has come to terms with sheer over the course of the last few months.

Oh fuck, no. We're not having another "what's art/what isn't art/which one of us is more intellectual/who is more pretentious/i like cheese" debate in any thread of MINE.
I wanted more of Davey Jones and Calypso. I thought that was one big thing that made his character less flat villain archetype, and that it coulda used more.
