Perhaps the reason they only put three or four episodes on each DVD is because the demand for higher quality exceeds the demand for compactness.

It's all about supply and demand and the market - not "wallet raping." If a business were to pursue "wallet raping," it would not be very profitable. Also, what American businesses currently do likely [i]is[/i] efficient. Otherwise, once again, it would not be profitable.

As for earth friendliness, one would find that the earth is not quite in any real peril from the DVD manufacturing industry.

Still. There are some anime DVDs that sell for $30 with 3 episodes on them. 75 minutes of content.

Yet the English dub is recorded in North America, the DVDs are manufactured (well...distributed at least) here, and they're usually region 1. So can they really be called Japanese DVDs? All the same, they seem priced even higher than DVDs that contain American content.

If you're really opposed to buying the bootleg versions, then I guess you're either gonna spend $150 or cruise the web hoping to find a used copy for cheaper. I buy all my DVDs and CDs used when I do buy them. In fact, I just picked up a copy of the Alien Quadrilogy for $30.

I'm talking about actual Japanese DVDs, period. The American release of Japanese anime may be expensive, but generally Japanese DVDs of any sort are more expensive than an American DVD. I don't know about anime, but I know that for movies and CDs Japanese releases are just plain more expensive.

ANYWAY, samurai champloo. It's pretty much Cowboy Bebop, with samurais. The series is pretty good in on the action tip, but can be likened to eating a huge bowl of rice for dinner. Even though it's filling, you'll be hungry again in about 5 minutes. But that said, it's worth glancing at on adult swim or giving the dvds a quick rental. It's not really something you'd love to hold on to long after you're done with the series.

Calrose rice for the win. Regular long grain rice (i.e. disgusting tasteless shit) is horrible and not filling, but calrose rice with curry on it...MMMMMMMMM.
