Re: Anime (other than FLCL)
I'm just watching the trio on toonami that play together: Kill La Kill, Michiko and Hatchin, SAO II. Fun times. Drunk Hana in last week's episode of MaH was hilarious. Based Mako, I want stickers.

Michiko and Hacchin is fantastic, both touching and badass at the same time.

Re: Anime (other than FLCL)
Although it's not "fantasy" in like, the traditional knights and armor fantasy, (it's more sci-fi, but there is magic) I'd also highly recommend Outlaw Star, even if you're rewatching it. It's solid as fuck.

Re: Anime (other than FLCL)
Sonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn you have top-tier anime taste and I love you.
Outlaw Star is the only anime I own on DVD (a fact I'm sure I've mentioned multiple times at this point). It's got everything you could want in a sci-fi adventure and then some. Badass action, some intricacy to the plot, romance, explosions, SHIPS WITH FUCKING ARMS ON THEM, plucky sidekick, cool aliens...goddamnt.

Re: Anime (other than FLCL)
less than three you too, baby
Watching an anime called Kaiji at Jolmes' recommendation. Digging it a lot so far, 8 eps into the first of two seasons.
Oh sweet, I started watching Kaiji really recently too. I think I'm about halfway done. I like it, but it feels a little slower and a little more drawn out than I'd like. If you liked Kaiji, I'd really recommend Akagi. It has to be made by the same studio, since the animation is so similar, but I think Akagi has better pacing, or at the very least, I felt more captivated by Akagi than Kaiji.

Re: Anime (other than FLCL)
I think Akagi did a better job at tension than Kaiji, but Kaiji was a more likeable character to me than Akagi.
Akagi is an unbeatable genius who sees a scale others can't touch. Kaiji is a bit of an uneducated genius in his way, but he's mostly just got incredible moral fiber and crazy resolve.
Both were great, though. Edit: and they're both based on mangas by the same dude, and I'm pretty sure you're right about the same studio doing both shows, though I didn't bother checking lol.

I figured they were also probably by the same mangaka, but I wasn't sure and didn't doublecheck it, especially since Akagi is still running, I think. If you like the whole board-game anime thing, you might consider watching Hikaru no Go. It's about a kid who gets possessed by an Edo era Go-playing ghost. I think the series dragged on a little too long personally, but it was an enjoyable anime nonetheless. But I'll plug Mukashibanashi (Folktales from Japan) one more time. It's crazy as fuck. There's this one episode where these two merchants are chilling the fuck out. One takes a nap under a tree while the other keeps watch. A fly comes out of the merchant's nose while he sleeps, and the second merchant sees it. The fly flies away, and the second merchant is all when, after a few hours, it comes back and flies back up Merchant A's nose. Merchant A then tells B about the crazy dream he had where his body got really light and he flew away to an island where there was this mansion and some treasure buried underneath the estate. The second merchant "buys" the first merchant's dream from him and goes off to find this hidden treasure...I won't spoil the rest, but these kinds of ridiculous stories are pretty common (it's got like 200+ episodes, I think, with multiple stories per episode.) I guess thinking about it, Hansel and Gretel would be weird as fuck too, but I(we) grew up with it, so we kinda take it for granted that it's par for the course. In other anime news, I recently found out that Grimm's Fairy Tales, a show that I absolutely loved as a child...was anime all along. Mind-blowing.

Re: Anime (other than FLCL)
I think the manga for Akagi and Kaiji are both ongoing as well? Highly recommend reading those when they're done as well, since Kaiji has way more going on than what they did in the anime. I think for Akagi Jomei told me that he's still playing Washizu in the manga lolol.

Re: Anime (other than FLCL)
When I can get around to it, I'm watching Zeta Gundam.
When we can make time, my partner and I are watching Escaflowne. A long while back, I watched the first DVD or two - she's seen the whole thing. Some pretty sick 90's anime nostalgia, and the OST is by Yoko Kanno (it's incredible, big surprise). You got your fantasy, pretty boys, romance, big fighting robots. I'm digging it.
Does anyone have somesome other good 90s fantasy/romance/adventures reccs? Bonus points for quality soundtracks
There's a pretty decent anime with an alright soundtrack called FLCL. You've probably never heard of it.
I haven't seen all of it, but Record of Lodoss War was good from what I saw of it. It's 80s (and it's mech) but I remember liking Gunbuster, as well; though you're going to have to deal with gratuitous amounts of Gainax breast jiggle.
I know so pathetically few 90s anime when i think about it. Most of the ones I know come straight from Adult Swim. Shit, you COULD watch/rewatch Inuyasha if you wanted some cheesy fantasy, adventure, AND romance. It's up on Netflix right now. It's got both the shitty Japanese and the shitty English dubs. They're all awful. English dub has somewhat southern-despite-being-a-Canadian-dubbing-studio sounding Inuyasha and the Japanese dub has talking cat mascot Inuyasha. I personally prefer the English one for nostalgia's sake.

Re: Anime (other than FLCL)
I watched the new Dragonball Z movie, Resurrection of F in theaters on Saturday.
It was
fucking
AWESOME.
It was waaaaaaaaaaaay better than I would have expected a DBZ movie to be. It really hit all the high notes of what made DBZ lovable over the years and treated many of the characters really well. If you're a fan of DBZ, I highly highly recommend watching this if you can.
Most important question: was Gohan finally cool again? :'(
Yes and no. I soooooooo want to spoil shit, but I'll refrain...but one of the coolest (and new) things I've seen in DBZ happened to him.

Re: Anime (other than FLCL)
That's basically how Gohan does, haha. First to reach SSJ2 true form and dish out a one-armed kamehameha, a true baller if ever there was one. I'd imagine that even with something awesome and new going down, he was still kind of a puss because of all that time studying, though.

Re: Anime (other than FLCL)
I kind of want pussy-version Gohan to die so I can stop hoping for him to be good again.
