Re: Anime (other than FLCL)
Attack on titan is getting a dub (releasing in June). Generally from what I've seen people don't like dubs here but I still want the collectors edition funimation is releasing.

Re: Anime (other than FLCL)
I don't really watch animu anymore, but I fucking love me some dubs. When I was an otaku piece of shit in high school, I was a fanboy for a lot of American VA's, guys like Michael McConnohie, Jamieson Price, Steve Blum, etc. Big O, Cowboy Bebop, Rurouni Kenshin and so many others had simply delicious dubs.
Funimation's VA's were always a mixed bag for me. Providing that Chris Sabbat no longer voices half of the characters in any given title however, I'm game.

Yeah, I still watch anime, but I'm not as obsessed as I was. Love all those you mentioned too. Here's a clip from the dub.

Re: Anime (other than FLCL)
I can't really watch dubs now. The melodrama and over-sincerity of so much anime (shounen or not) is just too goddamn palpable when I hear it in my own language.

Judging by the title and the fact that it links to "http://www.tv-tokyo.co.jp/anime/youkai-watch/index2.html" I'd guess it's called "Youkai Watch".

This is kind of what killed anime for me. Even in Japanese it gets to be a little grating. I admit that my preference for dubs is limited to the work of only certain actors, and that a lot of it is nostalgia. Not even kidding though, within the next year I intend to start producing audiobook versions of some of my novels, and I TOTALLY intend to track down a few of my favorite anime VAs to see if they'll do the narration. Some of them do that work on the side, lol.

They may make more doing audiobooks, anime doesn't pay well, but it's pretty much the hardest voice acting.

This may be true. I heard one of my favorites narrating a fairly high-profile book, which probably pays out good royalties, or at least a nice lump sum. Probably easier work than anime, too, since it doesn't usually involve standing there and screaming out "KAAAAAAAMEEEEEEEEHHAAAAAAAMMMEEEEEEEEHAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!" at the top of your lungs for 20 takes. Lol.

Re: Anime (other than FLCL)
Yeah, I don't know how I can watch One Piece. It gets downright cheesy as fuh just about every other episode. I just enjoy the comedy aspect of it a lot I guess. But yeah, for the most part, I can't even watch anime these days. I haven't seen virtually any of the new shit. The only show I think does sentimentality really well is Hajime no Ippo. The last couple episode that came out really hit the nail on the head, I think. I love the dub and the original Japanese performances for that series. It's a great show. But yeah, for the most part I stick to more "serious" and "dark" shows, that can avoids the tropes we've come to expect from anime, so the amount of shows I actually watch is very small and limited. Also, DETROIT FUCKING METAL CITY. Best fucking show evar.

Re: Anime (other than FLCL)
Even in Japanese it gets to be a little grating.
God, it's like watching fucking non-stop soap operas: everything is SO GODDAMN SRS FOR THE FATE OF THE WORLD AND LIFE ITSELF. >:|
English dubs, on the other hand, seem to swing fully over to the opposite extreme, where everything is so goddamn cheesy and insuffrably cringeworthy. They also seem to have this almost OCD tendency of filling in any space of silence with overdone breathing noises, grunts, gasps, and various other totally gratuitous sound effects.
(That being said, as obnoxious as anime can be, I still have a ton of respect for these guys. Dubbing in general is pretty difficult work: it takes a lot of specialized technical skill to act while matching the lip flap of another language. Live action dub VAs probably have it worse than those who dub anime, but nevertheless, I remember reading an interview from Crispin Freeman (I think?) where he noted that there's a reason you usually see the same core set of voice actors in all the major English anime dubs.)
Anyway, although I can't really watch anime anymore either, I did recently dig up an old favorite of mine: Night on the Galactic Railroad. The slow, reflective pacing, the subtle yet lush symbolism, and even the soundtrack by itself... it's still a pretty magical film for me.
