Re: What movies have you watched recently?
I recently watched What Dreams May Come and that was very interesting. Great perspective on Heaven and Hell. Then I watched Battle Los Angeles and that was great. Not a lot of story behind the invaders but it does a great job on documenting one Marine Corps group and how they become a Unit.

I've got Hobo With a Shotgun up next on my Netflix queue. I'm tremendously excited.

The Cove.
Really, Taiji? The dolphins are pests that are stealing all the fish? :/
It made me think about how hard it is to convince people who have been doing things and thinking a certain way for many years to change. Sometimes you just have to make the consequences of not changing their ways as damaging as you can (in this case providing really bad PR).
^that sounded pretty good from the description I read of it. Post what you think after you see it.
Well, I'm hammered. It's hard to believe tht I can still type complete sentences after all I've had to rink tonight, but I thought I'd drop in and let you know how Hobo with a Shotgun was. It wasn't nearly as good as I'd hoped- something of a disappointment, compared to the original trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1LlazPgxKrADavid Brunt would've made a better hobo than Rutger Hauer. The violence was often quite good, but the other actors proved annoying, except for Rutger Hauer's Hobo. There were some funny scenes, and if you're a fan of exploitation films, this is a good choice, but it isn't nearly as good as I'd hoped.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes was a great modern rendition. Go see it

Re: What movies have you watched recently?
Watched two Kurosawa films this week, along with a Norwegian flick called Troll Hunter. Troll Hunter was pretty good, nothing super amazing, but it was pretty neat. The Kurosawa films (Hidden Fortress and Ran) were both excellent. Hidden Fortress I actually watched twice in two days because I liked it so much, lol. The two peasant characters are hilarious. It's also really interesting seeing where Lucas got a lot of his inspiration for Star Wars from.

Watched Insidious the other day. It was standard horror movie fare; not especially scary or original, but entertaining nonetheless.

I enjoyed it, but it was extremely predictable. I've been on a big horror movie kick lately and it was one of the better ones I've seen recently.

Watched Rubber today. Fun movie. Loved it. 4/5 Edit @ h2o: See Rashomon, Yojimbo and High and Low for more Kurosawa badassery. EXCELLENT films. Toshiro Mifune is an astounding actor.

Watched Shaolin Soccer last night. It was all right, I guess. The Bruce Lee/GoldenRhino goalie was a highlight.
