There's a lot of talk about Cartoon Network bringing Toonami back. What do you guys think? I imagine most of the people on this forum grew up watching Toonami, yes? Providing that they run some older shows, I think it'd be a good idea. I own most of my favorite Toonami shows on DVD, but it'd be a good opportunity for the younger people out there to discover some great shows.

Would any of you guys recommend Eden of the East? I've had a lot of girls tell me recently that it's quite good, but I'm skeptical.

Re: Anime (other than FLCL)
I remember Eden of the East being oookay, but I watched it a long time ago when it was nowhere near finished. I don't know if it's over with even now.
If you have Netflix I recommend some show called RIN, Daughters of Mnemosyne. It's a pretty interesting seinen animu about some detective chick who can't stay dead. It's only six episodes long, but each episode is about 10-30ish years apart, starting in 1990. Don't let the dumbshit JRPG-esque title throw you off, it's a cool show. Plus the dub isn't bad my any means.
edit: I feel compelled to say this was originally an anime before the obligatory light novel and manga adaptations.

Re: Anime (other than FLCL)
I recently watched that one anime "We still don't know the name of that flower from that summer" or something. It was AMAZING. It was really sad too. It was the first anime i've seen ina REALLY long time.I highly recommend it.

Re: Anime (other than FLCL)
Anime of the year is Lupin the Third: the Woman called Fujiko Mine.
It was practically simulcast for free on Funimation's site, with new episodes coming out only a few days after release in Japan, subtitles and all and should still be there. Pretty mind-blowing, I must say. If you like Lupin or enjoy something somewhat in the vein of Cowboy Bebop, don't miss this--it's an instant classic. And if you need more incentive after that, let me say that you will see more of Fujiko's boobs than you ever dreamed possible... in the opening credits alone.

Re: Anime (other than FLCL)
Princess Jellyfish was pretty rad, it had a chatmonchy song for the opening and a Sambomaster song for the close. It's about a girl who lives with a group of socially awkward otaku women and their interactions with Kuranosuke, an illigitimate son of a wealthy politician who crossdresses as a way to distance himself from the rat race of his family life. He becomes interested in and helps the main character, Tsukimi, deal with her grief of loss of her mother, and help her realize her beauty and guide her to using her talents for a purpose.
11 episodes was too few for this one, though. I think at least three of the side characters could have used some time to shine, but the show focused a bit too much on the blackmail plot. I was expecting Kuranosuke to help each of the other otaku women find a bit more confidence and self-esteem for their lives but they definitely got the "side character only" treatment. And I don't think Kuranosuke even got what he was looking for, the address to his mother's current residence so he could see her again... But I guess that's ok to show you can't always get what you want. Just not as strong an ending that there could have been given many more episodes.

Re: Anime (other than FLCL)
Cloudy, the anime didn't get a second season because of poor sales, otherwise there'd be more of it. I've heard the manga is really good, though.
Also, Metal, I loved Ano Hana. Shit was amazing.

Re: Anime (other than FLCL)
I got done watching Clannad not too long ago.
I loved it. What I didn't like was the fact that some of the characters became 'pointless' after their stories were over. The one in particular is that cute little library chick. The 'smart one'.
There is a huge scene where she admits to have really liked that little boy that would always visit her. She starts to cry, the dude starts to cry and then the scene changes to her pre-birthday.
A few minutes later the episode ends. You're thinking "Sweet, so we'll see her playing the violin in her birthday and maybe she'll be good this time. AWESOME"
But nope. her story is over, so you just get some crap from another character and that's it.
A lot happened with a few of the characters. It was lame. Another one I liked was that fighter chick. She had an interesting back story but they really didn't do much. They gave her a non-cannon episode at the end of the first season and that's it.
Haven't started watching seasons 2. I'll start eventually.
Over all it was okay.

Metal, you should play the game for better resolutions, if you're into that kind of thing.
Also, watch Angel Beats.

Re: Anime (other than FLCL)
I don't remember being impressed by Angel Beats. Then again, I have a stupid high standard for anime these days. I hate wasting my time.
