Re: Star Wars
At first I was upset that apparently the new movies will be original stories that diverge from established EU material, but now I don't think that's so bad. I kind of like the idea of having a second Star Wars EU with different storylines. IMO, Star Wars would be better without all those cheesy 90s superweapon-of-the-week comics and most of New Jedi Order.

Re: Star Wars
Mfw I read that Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher are reprising their roles in the new Star Wars films:

HOW DOES THIS MAKE YOU FEEL?

Re: Star Wars
^I was wrong.
Anyway. I was a little disappoint, tbh. I don't want to taint anyone else's opinions too much, but I'd give it a 6.5/10 as-is, but a 7/10 with the potential hope the next movie's going to be better and elaborate a lot more.

Re: Star Wars
Honestly, after rewatching the original trilogy again recently, I'd say The Force Awakens is actually a better movie than Return of the Jedi. (IMO, Return of the Jedi is bad enough that you can almost see shades of the prequel trilogy's horror in it.)
I mean, yeah, it's basically a recycled plot. That disappointed me to some extent. But at the same time, if you think about it, Star Wars has always been about cycles: the same patterns repeating themselves, generation after generation. In that vein, I think Abrams and co. did an admirable job of balancing the introduction of new characters and settings with bringing back familiar elements of the Star Wars universe (including plot lol).
That being said, a few of the homages to the original trilogy were a bit... heavyhanded ([SPOILERS]like the scene in Maz Kanata's castle being a blatantly obvious throwback to the Mos Eisley Cantina[/SPOILERS]). But all in all, I thought they were subtle and well-integrated enough that I was definitely smiling more than cringing.
Either way, the more important thing is that, as a movie, this was 1000x better than all of the godawful junk that George Lucas shat out for the prequel movies. Dialogue was incredibly human and well-done (a quality that, in my honest opinion, only A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back share). Pacing was great, and it did an excellent job of capturing the essence of what makes Star Wars great, IMO: putting you in a vast, mythical universe and engaging your sense of wonder and curiosity. Like, that was the essence of what made the original Star Wars magical for me, and I felt that The Force Awakens did an excellent job of rebooting that.

Re: Star Wars
Is it okay to spoil things now? It should be okay to spoil things by now.
DON'T KEEP READING IF SOMEHOW YOU STILL HAVEN'T SEEN IT
Some parts bothered me, some parts were cool and it got a little cheesy during the fight between Kylo and Rey, but I'm looking forward to seeing what Rey does in the next movies. Also, <3 BB-8. Non-speaking sidekicks are the best.

Re: Star Wars
Found out shortly after watching the movie that BB-8's sounds were partially done/inspired by Ben Schwartz (Jean-Ralphio from Parks and Rec.) Made me love that droid even more.
As for the movie, I really liked it, but thought it could've done with way less mirroring of the original trilogy. I get what they're going for and I liked part of it, but wished they would've toned it down a bit.

Re: Star Wars
Anyone else here see The Last Jedi? How 'bout them porgies, eh? Although, for srs, I thought it was amazing. Right up there with Empire Strikes Back (maybe even better?). I really like the direction they're taking this franchise so far...

Re: Star Wars
I didn't even bother watching the 9th movie after how bad the 8th one was.
Also thought The Mandalorian was hella overrated. It was just okay, but you'd think it was the second coming of Jesus with the way some people were fawning over it online
