Re: Inception
Brye, might want to headline that post with an indication of spoilers, as I'm sure some people still haven't seen it.
http://community.livejournal.com/ohnotheydidnt/49059535.html
This is very convincing. However, I think the best part about the movie is the opportunity for multiple readings. Yes, a filmmaker may have one overarching reasoning in mind, but the story has merit in and of itself, and people should be encouraged to read the story in multiple ways.

Neat graphic. SPOILER ALERT: don't click if you haven't seen the movie. http://dehahs.deviantart.com/art/Incept ... -172424503

Re: Inception
I saw Inception last week with pretty high expectations, and they were met. It's not everyday that we see a movie flourish with no preceding media for it to ride on. I'd have to say that personally, it was one of the best trips to the theater I've ever had. And I'm glad it had the balls to actually end the story arc that the movie began. I saw Salt on the same day, and while being entertaining, it had an expected action movie cliffhanger plot and pretty shallow characters. I shall now write a screenplay for a movie where Leonardo DiCaprio plays every male character and Ellen Page plays every female character. Ellen Page.

I agree with Mare. I thing that trying to perfectly tie up all the pieces of evidence in the film into one uncontroversial, objective interpretation of what actually took place is an inevitably fruitless endeavor. I've only seen the movie once, though, so maybe the evidence is more convincing than I remember.

Re: Inception
I think I heard that they confirmed that the point behind the movie was as suggested in that article, which I was already convinced of, I'm just saying that just because that's one of the underlying readings of the film doesn't mean that the storyline in and of itself should be strictly defined by that, and that the film appears to have been made in such a manner that it specifically invites multiple interpretations of the overall meaning/resolution of the plot itself. The narrative of the film is a vehicle for the metaphor described in that article, but that doesn't mean that the plot is defined by the underlying metaphor of the film as a whole.

Re: Inception
SPOILERS?!
Yeah, I mean you can extrapolate themes, but theories that try to definitively settle who was/wasn't dreaming, whether or not the whole film was a dream, those kind of things, are bound to fail.

Re: Inception
Spoilers.
Agreed. I think that the underlying point of "it doesn't matter if Cobbs is dreaming or not, because the movie is really about ______" is a statement we can all agree with, especially since, like I said, I believe it was confirmed by the director recently, but while that may not matter for the point of the movie, the movie refuses to clearly pronounce whether or not it was a dream in the end, which is in fact one of the strongest points of the film, I think.

Re: Inception
I saw the movie today. It was a nice movie. After I had watched it, it really hit me. I didn't know what to do next. I couldn't just do something else and forget about the movie. So, after I had watched the ending screens, I found myself listening to the pillows. I directly played "Beautiful Picture". and whoa, it really suited the movie. The song has that same ambience. And when I watched the translated lyrics. . . .it even got me more.
Hontou wa, hontou wa ne Hontou wa damatteta kedo, hontou wa Hontou wa, hontou wa ne Hontou wa kono goro zutto Hontou wa sabishikute dou kanari sou sa Soko ni ite yo "The truth is, the truth really is The truth is I couldn’t say anything, but the truth is The truth is, the truth really is The truth is, ever since that time The truth is I’m lonely, I’m going crazy Just stay there "
http://www.pirouzu.net/lyrics-main/b-si ... picture-t/(Somehow I connect stories I like (quite a bit) to certain pillows songs, just like I did with Murakami's "Norwegian Wood"( viewtopic.php?f=13&t=864&p=118525&hilit=Murakami#p118525 ), I just find out there is a movie of Norwegian Wood ) " I once had a girl, or should I say, she once had me." ~ Norwegian Wood " he has to choose between his future and his past. " ~ Inception
But when I finished it, it hit me. . .and made me really confused and blue and stuff, . And listening to Shiroi Natsu atm. . . really makes me think, WTF ARE YOU DOING HERE!? ,
I lold. But tbh I feel just the same now . . .

Re: Inception
wat
Also I finally watched this movie a while back, and I was damned pleased with it. Truthfully, I was expecting more mind fuck and less action.
