It seems pretty well-established that Sawao is indicating his desire to be a "bat." Is there an official source that confirms this fact? Long ago, I had always incorrectly presumed he was saying "bird" in a notably Japanese manner. I had meant to ask years ago, but did not get around to it.

hmm. . . interesting point you've got there.
I always assumed it was bat, because of the contradiction with "want to touch the sun"
But in the blue poppies' version of subhuman, you can indeed hear bird.

Also you can hear: Goodbye I must be leaving now or Goodbye I must be living now. And I used to hear: I cannot stand this hate instead of heat.

(Once I heard in subhuman: "I woke up at midnight. . .I caaaaame!)

Yeah, Sawao trying to speak English doesn't quite have a 100% success rate. That's why I'm wondering if there is an official source of those lyrics, rather than the ears of pillows fans. Personally, I thought that using "bat" instead of "bird" was a tad ridiculous (but not contrary to the pillows' style), and really hoped in my mind that I was not, in fact, mishearing. However, I've never even seen a mention of "bird" by anyone, so I figured others figured it out through an official source - because the way he says it, it is anything but certain.

Interesting... if that were better quality we could see what Japanese words he actually used. I can't quite make it out. As I found with 'Xavier' (which also had Japanese lyrics) his translation isn't the smoothest.

I've only got the scans from 'Another morning, another pillows' and that booklet only had the English lyrics.

Well, the line in question about the bat is easy enough to read: boku wa koumori ni naritai nda (I want to become a bat).

By the way, greatest single release ever, or greatest single release ever?

It's weird, because I can't tell if you're being sarcastic. I thought it was an established fact that Terminal Heaven's Rock was the best pillows single. THR, Sick Vibration, Over Amp. It's helped out a lot that Over Amp is one of the best pillows tracks, no doubt. Definitely top 10 material.

Am I missing something when you say "greatest single ever"?

Because none of those are even close IMHO.

"Skeleton Liar" is without a doubt my favorite pillows song. "ROSS" is primarily responsible for my existence on this forum. And "Subhuman" is just a damn good song.

"THR" is good, but honestly cannot begin to compare, in my eyes.

I agree with Sheer.

ROSS has three epic songs on it.

1) Ride on Shooting Star - come on. The Riff. The Chorus. Nuff said.

2) Skeleton Liar - OMG vocals and Manabe's lead guitar lines/riff. The solo... holy shit I love this song to death (favorite off the single, one of my favorite pillows songs period).

3) Subhuman - As sheer said, just a damn good song.

I can easily see this being a veteran pillows fan's favorite single.

I think someone (not me) needs to make a "Favorite Single Release" poll thread, even if it's been done before (although it hasn't, to my knowledge).

If I wasn't so fucking lazy I would scan it myself.

I'd also scan the lyrics for Spiky Love if someone would translate them.
