Post subject:  Japanese music, English titles

I was wondering the other day, most of the Pillows's songs are in Japanese, but they have english titles and sometimes english words mixed in.
It's not just them though, Mr. Children and some other Japnese bands do that too.
What's the purpose of it? English obsession?

I think it's cool the way Sawao switches between the two languages, but what's the meaning behind it?

Wow, this is elementary.

On the business level, the Japanese learn English to strengthen economic ties (considering America = 50+% of Japanese exports...)

Culturally, the Japanese really like American and British shit. And because of American business contacts, English is really encouraged, since speaking it is a very useful skill to have. They also see English movies and all of that jazz, so that only furthers interest in that area. So in a way, it's an obsession with American stuff, because they're really into it, kind of like how most of us are really into Japanese stuff.

Get it?

Most Americans =\= Nippon otaku.

But yes. Why do you think you can go to a Mickey D's in Sapporo and order a Biggu Makku?

Try DAUBARU BIGGU MAKKU. It's twice the freaking burger. They have it in Canada too. I've never seen it in the US.

I compare japanese interest with american stuff too white people's interest with stereotypic black stuff.

the stereotype stands that a white guy is more attractive in the east
the stereotype stands that black guys get alot of ass

so like most things it starts with the jealous side incorporating the stereotype and eventually leaks too the rest of the culture.

Id imagine an asian saying "Hey!" is like a white guy saying "Sup!"

When Sawao says "OH YEAH!" its like a white guy saying "HOLLAH!"

etc.

of course americans have an excuse. We're just a mess of other cultures, we dont have any culture really.

Marketing. If all the pillows songs had japanese titles, there'd be a great decrease in fans.

Plus the pillows were greatly influenced by the Beatles, some of their titles bearing familiar words.
