HERE IT IS!
---------------
I KNOW YOU

Under a moon that looked as
though it were drawn with a compass, you howl.
Jungle gym desperado,
blow out the town's lights.

"I hate this kind of planet,
so now I'll destroy it with
a sure-kill chop," you said
with a laugh and a pose,
but in your child-like eyes
a few tears were showing.

But I know you,
and fall in love.

Little fixer of the big prairie,
ignored by the world,
you were brought up in true color,
striding through the flower beds.

I made sure to hold on to that
ticket you dropped sometime, to the treasure island that
nobody had ever been to before,
because if it's you, even the things that
seem fake look like they could come true.

But I know you,
and fall in love.

Obsessing about it all;
taking a full swing at all the chance balls;
noisily grasping tightly with both hands, only now,
this time that will never be again.

But I know you,
and fall in love.

I was just thinking...we often interpret Sawao's English as charmingly riddled with mistakes, very playful in nature. The incorrectness is often what we adore. But then I had this theory: What if Sawao is actually a genius, and his English lyrics are imbued with much deeper meaning that we had expected?

"I know you, I know you, I know you, I know you
I know you, I know you, and fall in love"

Take that simple chorus, with dubious meaning ("I know you"? Is it "I know of you" or "I know who you are"?)...and then mix that with dictionary.com's definitions of "know".

1. to perceive or understand as fact or truth; to apprehend clearly and with certainty: I know the situation fully.
2. to have established or fixed in the mind or memory: to know a poem by heart; Do you know the way to the park from here?
3. to be cognizant or aware of: I know it.
4. be acquainted with (a thing, place, person, etc.), as by sight, experience, or report: to know the mayor.
5. to understand from experience or attainment (usually fol. by how before an infinitive): to know how to make gingerbread.
6. to be able to distinguish, as one from another: to know right from wrong.
7. Archaic. to have sexual intercourse with.

Members of Instant Music, I leave this up to your personal interpretation.

Or maybe he uses a Japanese-English dictionary and goes, "That's the word I want!" and we've been completely misunderstanding the context of his songs. ^_^

Maybe it's just that we over look things to much. His simple "i know you" done in a nice rhytim gives it a good beat. And he just said "it fits " And we keep thinking that there is this big interpretation thing.

Well, at least we all know that if you want Sawao to fall in love with you, just get him in the sack six times.

Oh man I love this song! A few good friends and I named our band after it... too bad it's not together anymore.

Thanks for the translation!

I never quite understood that part. He's holding onto a ticket that they'll drop sometime soon? Wut? :dizzy:

The ticket that she dropped at some past point. You know, because "dropped" is past tense, like the other verbs in that sentence.
