Whoa, this thread is incredibly old. Did we ever find a translation for this one? Always been curious what it's about... |

This one has some difficult phrases in it... Edit: Okay, not sure of the first stanza's second two lines or the very ending stanza's phrasing, and this is a quick job, but here you go. Just like someone predicted I hear the footsteps of darkness reaching both arms out to me This skyscraper, reaching to the heavens, is like the empty shell of rules I had longed to break apart Climbing to the roof, beneath a hazy sky I gently called your name without knowing why I'm not lonely, so I wonder why... Something about the yellow scenery of this peaceful holiday stunned me, stuck in place I had been watching the ground as I walked, but I was just pretending to think; tomorrow is a dream Even if I were to be a king I couldn't make the sort of world anyone would want I bet god's the same way, why is that? Climbing to the roof, beneath a hazy sky I gently called your name without knowing why I'm not lonely, so I wonder why... I don't care if it's just by chance but I'd like to gather up bits of happiness someday... |

Wow I'm starting to figure if this song was about his struggle with the band at the time. Thank you for translating. |

Sorry for being such a lazy fuck about translating things for you guys. It's selfish to not share what I can, even though I know I'm not as good at this as I used to be and others can do it better. Helps that Sawao tends to write such great lyrics so often. Maybe not the most poetic at times, but his sentiments are always expressed very well, sometimes even in really plain metaphors. There's a strong sense of honesty from that sort of writing that has always appealed to me. |

Some of his approaches to writing music is interesting indeed. I remembered in an Anime Insider interview done in 2005 about his approaches to writing music. He stated that the music always comes first and the lyrics later. He said that while he listens to the song, the words would slowly come to his head. He puts them together to form lyrics. He also stated he doesn't check to see if the lyrics are good or not, but he checks to see how it sounds good to his mouth when he sings them. He also stated that the song writing isn't planned. |

I personally think that writing in that way, where you allow your mind to sift through the possibilities more on a subconscious level to let the song sort of form itself inside your head is a really effective method of songwriting. Arguably, your subconscious mind is capable of a more intuitive calculation of things (think how you can learn how to do very complex things you can't really calculate the interactions for, such as riding a bike) and sifts through possibilities much more quickly than the conscious, judging mind. |

I also heard Sawao likes his lyrics to be like a movie. I can definitely draw to that. I mean I think the song Girlfriend was about how couples don't spend enough time together because they're busy with everything else. Sawao uses that theme in those lyrics by giving "what could've been" scenarios in the song by having the couple miss the train forcing them to spend time together. |
